Our House: Two Stories, One New Beginning
I’m so excited to finally share the first chapter of our Umbrian adventure: the house itself!
It’s a truly unique property — really, two homes in one — each carrying its own history and personality.
The first is a magnificent stone house built in the 1800s. Its thick walls are steeped in character, whispering stories from another century. Of course, time has left its mark, and this part of the property will need to be completely restored and redesigned. It’s a daunting challenge, but also the most thrilling opportunity: to breathe new life into the past and carry it gracefully into the 21st century.
Connected to it is a second section, added in the 1960s. This wing is in better shape, but still calls for a full renovation. With its simpler lines and more modern bones, it offers a blank canvas — a perfect counterpoint to the rustic stone. Our dream is to weave these two eras together into a single, harmonious home.
And then there’s the setting. The house sits on a hilltop, embraced by groves of olive and fruit trees — almonds, plums, and more — a little Eden of our own. From above, we can see Castel Sismano, standing proudly in the distance, watching over the valley like a timeless guardian.
This is just the beginning. I’ll be documenting every step of the journey — the designs, the dilemmas, the dust, and eventually, the dream realized. I can’t wait to share it all with you.

Stay tuned — the adventure starts here!
